Mir Enan- Secretary GeneralIt is with great pride that, I Mir Enan Mubasher, invite you to the first session of Dubai Scholars Model United Nations. This year we hope to make an impact no matter how big or small on our society as we know it. Model United Nations is a great platform for one to understand the world from many different perspectives and it also provides us with the opportunity to build confidence and public speaking skills. My first MUN about 3 years ago had allowed me to come out of my shell of uncertainty that I used to hibernate in. From there, I became a confident individual who would like to see a change in the world. Thus, along with my fellow MUN Directors and the Executive team of DSMUN 2018, we have decided to give a similar opportunity to anyone who seeks such.

Raiaan Mubashir - Chair, Human Rights CouncilThe first time I decided to participate in an MUN was absolutely one of the best decisions I had made. The skills an MUN instills unto someone such as debating, public speaking, critical thinking, writing and leadership are the ones required to survive in the world today.
Not only does it teach everyone on diplomacy and international relations but most important of all, it does so without a moment of monotony in the process. The HRC is the key body in the world responsible for the human rights of the international community, it’s actions, decisions and negotiations can result in the empowerment and protections of those rights and I’m sure you all will come up with ground-breaking solutions to the abuses and issues the world faces today. Lastly, the greatest lesson to be learnt from such experiences is that there is always something new to discover thus I hope to meet you all to not only guide you to becoming the leaders of tomorrow but also come across some of your unhackneyed proposals. |
Sara Toofail- Co Chair, Human Rights Council My first experience as a co chair is bound to be overwhelming. Being a delegate and learning about the core principals of MUN set by the chair are vital, therefore it is ideal to pass on and benefit all committee delegates. I believe decision-making, analyzing and communication to research all play a significant role in one’s personal development. I deliberately look forward to the aspiring and fruitful debate and hope to see diplomacy throughout the conference!

Ahmed Rayyan- Chair, General Assembly 1
A warm welcome to all delegates! It is with immense pleasure, I look forward to the upcoming DS MUN. With over eight MUNs under my belt, I can safely conclude that dialogue is the best way to combat any problem that is under the sun. Here, at the UN General assembly, you will have a plethora of choices to go about, when tasked with providing solutions to some of the problems that plague the world today. One piece of advice that I can confidently give, is that a delegate must, during the conference read well, speak assuredly and listen hard.
I wish you all the best of luck, and look forward to seeing you at the conference. |

Mohammad Zamaa- Chair, Security CouncilIt's with great pleasure and pride that I welcome you to the very first Security Council session of the Dubai Scholars MUN. The main aim of this session is to provide a platform for students to gain invaluable experiences of diplomacy and provide for an opportunity to take part in heated debates and discussions. We’ll all be play-acting for the weekend while writing documents that almost nobody outside of our committee will ever look at. Remember this when you feel the impulse to backstab, talk over another delegate or let competition come before content. The UNSC offers a venue for cooperation and policy creation that is unique amongst the committees, and we would do best not to squander it. I cannot wait to welcome you all to committee session in February!

Annada Rathore- Chair, World Bank It's my greatest pleasure to extend the warmest welcome to you. To all the delegates starting out this year, I applaud you for taking the time and courage out to be a part of something this rewarding and enriching an experience. MUNs can often be highly demanding events in terms of energy and effort, but I speak with confidence (and my experience of numerous MUNs over more than 3 years!) when I say that they only leave you richer. To those who have already tasted the rush of being a delegate and are returning for some more, I hope that you progress in any way possible.
Participating in MUNs isn’t just crucial academically, but they also develop all-round skills in research, debate, and diplomacy- all prominent in today’s world. So, while you reap all the benefits that DSMUN has to offer, I sincerely hope that you also enjoy these 3 days to the max. Good luck to all of you; may the odds be ever in your favour! |

Oudad Hakim-Co Chair, World Health OrganizationBeing part of an MUN takes courage and effort. MUN is a platform that allows each and every delegate to show case their intellectual abilities as well as their speaking abilities. But it also demands a level of formality and diplomacy that most people do not pertain or wish to abide by.
My personal MUN experiences have made me fond of socializing and talking to other delegates and at the end of the day, forming solutions to global predicaments with those same delegates. As the leaders of tomorrow, I believe it is our responsibility to combat and be aware of international issues plaguing the world today. The youth must prepare for the difficult decision that they will eventually have to make, that's what the DSMUN hopes to nurture and hone. I hope to see each and every day actively debate on controversial issues with a high level of enthusiasm and diplomacy.I look forward to working with everyone of you in this DSMUN and good luck ! |
